Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio officially threw her hat in the vice presidential race on Saturday, culminating months-long speculations of her seeking higher office in the 2022 elections.

Duterte-Carpio will be running under Lakas-CMD (Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats).

She filed her certificate of candidacy as a substitute for the party’s original vice presidential candidate, Lyle Uy.

Duterte-Carpio’s decision to run for vice president came two days before the deadline for substitution of candidates who withdrew.
