CLAIM: War has broken out in the South China Sea
RATING: FALSE
A YouTube video made the false claim that war has broken out in the South China Sea.
The video was titled “War Begins: Dozens of Chinese ships Intercept Philippine And US Warships In South China Sea.”
China and the Philippines continue a tense situation around disputed reefs in the West Philippine Sea that have seen dangerous maneuvers and water cannon use of Chinese ships on Philippine boats.
While the Philippine Coast Guard and fishermen vessels had encounters with Chinese Coast Guard and militia vessels, war has not broken out between the two countries, contrary to the claim of the YouTube video.
The Philippines has stated that the country won’t provoke conflict in the South China Sea, and is not encroaching on China’s territory, contrary to the claims of Beijing. Rommel F. Lopez
