CLAIM: The US economy is declining.
RATING: FALSE
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the false claim that the economy of the United States is faltering.
In a program at Sonshine Media Network Inc., Roque said:
“Talaga namang hindi tayo ang involved dito. Amerika lang ang involved. Dahil ang Amerika lang talaga ang naghahanap ng gulo dahil ang kanyang ekonomiya bagsak!”
Roque’s claim has no basis in fact.
The US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that the United States’ fourth quarter real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 3.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The US economy also added 2.7 million jobs in 2023.
Overall, the US economy grew 2.5% in 2023, exceeding the 1.9% growth in 2022. — Rommel F. Lopez
