CLAIM: Former senator Leila de Lima called President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. a thief
RATING: FALSE
TikTok user @rfs530 falsely claimed that former senator Leila de Lima not only called President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a thief but thanked him for dismissing the charges filed against her.
It is no secret that de Lima is a staunch critic of the Marcoses, given her position and background as chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights from 2008 to 2010.
But de Lima specifically called the president’s late father, Ferdinand Marcos Sr., a thief. She did not do the same for Marcos Jr.
On the second anniversary of Marcos’ interment at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, she reminded the public that the late dictator was not a hero but a thief.
She encouraged the citizenry to open their eyes and enlighten those ignorant of the Martial Law regime’s grim reality.
De Lima had also expressed disapproval of the 2016 Supreme Court ruling granting Marcos a hero’s burial.
“Burying Marcos at the Libingan is not moving on and uniting the nation. It is moving on, but only for crooks, trapos, cheats, and all other villains in public office, because the burial will justify every immoral and unlawful act that these public officials have done,” she said. Yvounne Bermudo
