CLAIM: Photo depicts better life for Filipinas before colonial rule

A Facebook post misused a photo of an actress in a defunct television series to make a false comparison about life for Filipinas before and during colonial rule.
The photo in question is that of actress Ayen Munji-Laurel, portraying the role of “Hara Lingayan” in the primetime historical fiction “Amaya” that aired from 2011 to 2012 on the GMA Network, based on a Google reverse image search.
PressOne.PH also found the photo on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the local “Kampeon” clothing brand, with both posts adverting to the fictional series. But these posts mistakenly referred to the Hara Lingayan character as Amaya, the series’ heroine.
The other photo in the original post is an undated colorized picture showing a Filipina woman and children in front of a nipa hut.
The post had very little by way of context. It did not specify the colonial era it was referring to or the specific conditions experienced by Filipinas before and during colonial times. Felipe F. Salvosa II
