Baguio City – A relatively new local choir gained instant international recognition by bringing home three gold medals at the 8th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) held recently in Bali, Indonesia.

The Cordillera Regional Science High School (CRSHS) Glee Club, composed of 36 members from grades 8 to 12, scored two gold medals in the folklore category and one in the teenagers category. They bested more than 15 entries from around the world.

The CRSHS qualified for the elimination round in the Folklore Category which enabled them to win a Level 4 gold medal.

The choir won another gold medal in the Choir Championship Folklore Category with a total score of 80.65 points while also winning a Level 1 gold medal for the Choir Competition Category.

CRSHS was invited to the BICF in November last year and the choir had to submit requirements such as performance videos and advance copies of three competition pieces.

Jayson Manuel Osong, the group’s conductor, said the Glee Club, founded only in June 2017, had the support of friends for their free musical arrangement and free musical scoring.  Short of resources, the choir held benefit concerts to raise funds for their plane tickets, hotel accommodations and costumes,.
