At least four police officers assigned to a quarantine checkpoint were hurt in an attack by suspected armed communist rebels in Concepcion, Misamis Occidental, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The Police Regional Office 10, in a report to the PNP Command Center in Camp Crame, said the police were manning an Advance Command Post in Barangay Putongan when the suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked them with gunfire at about 7:50 a.m. on Thursday,

The four police personnel were reported to have exchanged fire with the armed suspects, which the PNP said resulted in the death of one of the rebels said to be associated with the Guerilla Front “Sendong.”

The PNP said the suspects were being pursued by a joint team of police and military personnel. Jojo Mangahis
