UAAP Season 83 has been canceled.
The league announced this in a statement on Friday, citing concerns over student-athletes’ health and safety.
“After a series of discussions, the UAAP Board of Trustees (BOT) came to this difficult decision, putting major consideration on the health and safety of the student-athletes and those involved in the operations of our competitions,” the statement read.
“The decision will allow UAAP member-schools to plan their activities for the remainder of the academic year, as well as their athletic programs for next season,” it continued.
De La Salle University was supposed to host both Seasons 83 and 84.
It was only in October when the league inked a 5.5-year broadcasting deal with Cignal TV.
The league’s 82nd season was prematurely canceled in April due to Covid-19.
The league has yet to address issues such as player eligibility, age limit and practices amid the cancellation.
“Both the BOT and the Board of Managing Directors will further discuss the implications of the cancellation for the guidance of the member-schools and student-athletes,” the UAAP said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
