Typhoon Ulysses, with an international code name “Vamco,” intensified as it reaches Quezon and Aurora provinces, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

At 4 p.m. today, the eye of the typhoon was seen at 60 km East Northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte (14.4°N, 123.4°E). It has maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 195 km/h, currently moving westward at 20 km/h.

PAGASA said Ulysses may reach its peak intensity of 140-155 km/h prior to landfall. However, it might slightly weaken as it passes mainland Luzon due to frictional effects in the presence of the Sierra Madre and Zambales Mountain Ranges.

“Destructive winds and intense with at times torrential rainfall associated with the region of the eyewall and inner rainbands of the typhoon will be experienced over Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte until tonight and over Aurora and the northern portion of Quezon tonight through tomorrow early morning” PAGASA said in their post.
