After receiving widespread backlash, the Biology teacher who showed his Grade 10 students of Pili National High School in Ajuy, Iloilo a graphic sex  video quit his job.

The school principal submitted to Mr. Roel Bermejo, schools division superintendent, the teacher’s resignation letter with the incident report.

The resignation was “effective immediately.”

“The teacher wanted to have peace of mind,” said Bermejo.

But according to the letter, the teacher who committed the fiasco was not remorseful, he added.

However, the investigation will continue and will focus on the relevance of the material shown to the students.

Due to the resignation, the case will be forwarded to the DepEd regional office since the division has no longer administrative jurisdiction over it.

Bermejo instructed the school principal to find a replacement immediately for the resigned teacher.

“As to the two Grade 10 classes that were shown the sex video, the Iloilo schools division deployed a registered guidance councilor to Pili National High School to determine what interventions are needed, if at all,” he added.

Mayor Jett Rojas, on the other hand, sees no problem with sex education in schools but emphasized the importance of using teaching materials fit to the target learners.

Bermejo revealed that the DepEd has an available portal for the teaching materials related to sex education.

They are planning to conduct a teachers’ seminar to teach them about the right materials to use when teaching sex education. (RJ Espartinez)
