Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde is still criminally liable in connection with the “ninja cops” issue even after going on non-duty status ahead of his retirement, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said on Monday.
Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo took the “commute challenge” on Friday, as he bristled over suggestions he lacked empathy for the riding public enduring long queues for train rides and Metro Manila’s choked thoroughfares on a daily basis.
The PNP Public Information Office said Albayalde has no plans to retire early and that he has left his fate in the hands of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Tell me, Mr. Panelo, is there anything humane with leaving the house at 3:00 in the morning just to arrive on time at work? Is there anything dignifying with commuters cramming themselves inside trains with barely enough room to breathe just so they won’t receive salary deductions for tardiness?” Sen. Leila de Lima said.
