The proposed single ticketing system for traffic violations would improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila, the chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Tuesday.

“Indirectly, this will really improve the traffic situation dahil nga po kaakibat po ng pag-implement ng single ticketing system, mamo-monitor na po natin at malalagyan ng demerit points ‘yung mga erring motorists natin,” Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade said during a public briefing.

“By doing this, the idea is to relieve our roads from irresponsible drivers,” Tugade said.

The LTO, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and Metro Manila local government units are coordinating the implementation of a traffic code using a single ticketing system.

“Ang objective natin dito is to establish uniform definition for traffic violation at kaakibat po ng traffic violation is to establish a common unified penalty system para po ‘pag kumunekta na po ang different LGUs, different government agencies authorized to issue ticket, mamo-monitor natin ang performance ng ating mga driver via a common demerit point system,” the LTO chief said.

With the single ticketing system, the government will ensure that the privilege to drive will only be granted to responsible drivers.
