Two national athletes from General Santos City who brought home silver medals from the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games are set to receive cash incentives from the city government.

Pencak Silat silver medalists Alfau Jan and Almohaidib Abad are entitled to receive cash grants of PHP20,000 each in recognition of their achievements as mandated in the provisions of City Ordinance No. 21, series of 2004, according to Lady Manalo, head of the city sports division.

“Athletes who get medals or similar recognition in any sports event are entitled to receive cash incentives,” she said.

The local government’s incentives for victorious athletes aim to recognize hard work and encourage other athletes to push harder and improve their skills.

The cash grant will be on top of the incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission.

Manalo said she will consult the Office of the Mayor if other athletes who competed in SEA Games can also be given cash incentives — national team members Mark Gil Alfafara in volleyball, John Albert Mantua in athletics, and Carl Joshua Tangonan in aero gymnastics. (RJ Espartinez)
