The Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC), the developer of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), opened the online registration of their radio frequency identification (RFID) for motorists on Oct. 29, 2021, ahead of the scheduled opening of the CCLEX in the first quarter of next year.

Manny Pangilinan, the chairman of the Metro Pacific Tollway Corporation (MPTC), the mother corporation of the CCLEC, said the RFID offers contactless and cashless payment of motorists, fast-tracking their commute.

Allan Alfon, the president of CCLEC said motorists only need to schedule their RFID installation on cclex.com.ph, where they are given a quick response (QR) code.

Alfon said they have yet to set up installation areas, but they have initially identified one on mainland Cebu and another on Mactan Island.

Late last month, a ceremonial walkthrough of the 8.9-kilometer expressway was done by local executives of the Cebu Province, Cebu City, and Cordova town, in Mactan Island, after the bridge was finally linked.

Pangilinan, who attended the ceremony, said they invested over P30 billion for the expressway project that would give them 50 years to manage it under their concessionaire agreement with the government. -Ryan Sorote
