A group of Filipinos who lost their jobs due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic in Oman is scheduled to return to the Philippines Thursday.

Narciso Castañeda, the Philippine ambassador to Oman, said in the Laging Handa public briefing that the Omani and Philippine governments were finalizing the details of two to three repatriation flights monthly.

“The Filipino Community is not as badly affected by the virus compared to other nationalities in Oman who are housed in barracks where they living in close quarters with each other,” he said.

The first batch of 279 repatriated overseas Filipinos took an Oman Air flight on June 20, 2020. The latest batch of 300 Filipinos was sent home last week.

The ambassador also said nine Filipinos were infected with Covid-19 in Oman, one of whom died.

Five were undergoing treatment while the rest were recovering. Jojo Mangahis
