Malacañang on Monday said President Rodrigo Duterte might announce community quarantine classifications for May in his public address scheduled on Wednesday, April 28.

Current lockdown classifications will expire on April 30.

In a virtual presser, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said the country’s main pandemic task force would convene on Tuesday, April 27 to discuss the country’s Covid-19 situation.

“Bagama’t magkakaroon ng apela pa iyan, tingin ko ibibigay na ang rekomendasyon kay presidente kasi magiging a-uno na ng Mayo at ang Talk to the People ay Wednesday so pwede nang si presidente mag-anunsiyo,” he said.

In a statement on Sunday, Roque, spokesman of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, said members of the task force decide on lockdown classifications using “science and hard data” as basis.

“The members of the IATF, in their next meeting, would look into the analytics of the healthcare system of the National Capital Region Plus and the country. Specifically, it will review the attack rate and the hospital care utilization rate while checking the economic health of the nation,” he said.

“Our approach is whole-of-government and our overarching goal is to promote the total health of Filipinos, including people who have been marginalized due to loss of jobs and have experienced poverty as a result because of the imposition of strict lockdowns.” John Ezekiel J. Hirro
