Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a few days after his wife issued a statement saying her husband tested negative for the dreaded disease.

The spokesman of Marcos said the only son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos received his result from the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine on March 28 and is now being treated at an isolation area.

Victor Rodriguez said.

Last week, Marcos said in a statement that he was “unwell” experiencing “chest pains after arriving in the Philippines on March 13 from a trip to Spain.  He immediately had himself checked a day after since he was having difficulty breathing.  However, he decided to go home because there were too many patients awaiting treatment.

He went back to a hospital and had himself tested for COVID-19 in March 22 after experiencing the same symptoms.

Previously, Atty. Liza Araneta-Marcos, Marcos’ wife, said that she, her husband along with her children and their staff were tested for the coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) and “tested negative.”

Her husband, however, contradicted her statement saying he has yet to receive the results but did not specify what test he underwent then.

The losing 2016 vice presidential candidate’s sister, Sen. Imee Marcos, also said a few days ago that the Marcos family is still waiting for the result of her brother’s COVID-19 test. (Rommel F. Lopez)
