Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman James Jimenez on Monday said the official campaign period has not yet started and “premature campaigns” were outside the poll body’s jurisdiction.
Jimenez made the statement in reaction to potential 2022 bets releasing advertisements ahead of the campaign period.
“Yung naglalabas ng mga ads na ‘yun ay hindi naman talaga maituturing na kandidato pa,” Jimenez during the Tapatan sa Aristocrat virtual forum.
Jimenez said that when the campaign begins, Comelec would strictly check whether candidates complied with the rules.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2022 elections will be from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8, 2021, while the campaign period will start on Feb. 8, 2022 and end on May 7, 2022. Ariel Jack Tejado II
