The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has received P700 million from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) as payment of its P1-billion debt, according to PRC Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon.

“They have paid P700 million. The outstanding balance is P377 million,” Gordon said in an online press conference.

“I think they are headed toward maintaining quick payment. Hindi na papalakihin kasi kapag pinalaki maraming problema,” he added.

Gordon revealed the numbers a day after President Rodrigo Duterte lashed out at them and called the PRC “mukhang pera” (greedy) as the humanitarian organization recommenced its Covid-19 testing centers after receiving the government’s partial payment of its debt.

Gordon, however, said that he was not offended by President Duterte’s remark, but advised him regarding issuing statements that are “not really presidential.” RJ Espartinez
