The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has welcomed the bill that establishes the National Academy of Sports (NAS).

PSC Chairman William Ramirez said in a Facebook post, “The (PSC) Board is unanimous in saying that this is a welcome development.”

He added, “Anything that supports the development of sports in the country is a great boost to the country’s efforts to build a deeper grassroots sports program which feed our elite sports programs.”

According to a Senate press release, “The NAS will be implementing a quality and enhanced secondary education program, with a special curriculum on sports.”

Its main thrust is to recognize early and develop students who have sports potential through a curriculum design that will take into account the sports training requirements of the students, while at the same time achieving a “holistic quality education.”

The NAS main campus will be at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac.
