The Philippines is not ready to require Filipinos to present their vaccination cards to be allowed to go outside their homes, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said on Monday.
Roque made the statement following a policy by the Lapu-Lapu City government that allowed only vaccinated individuals to go outside their residences.
“I commend Mayor Ahong [Chan] of Lapu-Lapu for this innovation, pero siguro po, hindi pa napapanahon,” Roque said in a Palace briefing.
Roque said such restrictions were only applicable in areas or countries that have vaccinated the majority of their population against Covid-19.
“Iyong mga ganiyang restrictions ay pinapatupad ng mga bansa [kung saan] walang dahilan para hindi magpabakuna iyong mga bakunado at karamihan ay bakunado na at makakapamili na dahil mayroon silang bakuna,” he said.
According to independent vaccination tracker herdimmunity.ph, the Philippines will be able to achieve herd immunity by March 2022, based on its current rate of vaccination.
