Malacañang on Friday extended its condolences to the family and followers of “Ang Dating Daan” preacher Eliseo “Eli” Soriano, who has passed away at 73 years old.

“We extend our condolences to the bereaved family, friends, loved ones and followers of Bro. Eliseo “Eli” Soriano who passed away at the age of 73,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.

“Bro. Eli was a beloved preacher of Ang Dating Daan whose teachings touched the lives and served as guide to many. His dedication to propagate the words of God in the Bible was a clear testament of his steadfast love to serve his brethren and the Almighty.”

Soriano’s death was announced through Ang Dating Daan’s social media pages on Friday morning.

“It is with deep sadness, yet with full faith in the Almighty, that we announce the passing of our beloved and one and only Bro. Eliseo ‘Eli’ Soriano — a faithful preacher, brother, father, and grandfather to many,” the post read.

“Up to the last moments of his life, Brother Eli was able to fulfill his vow to the Almighty that manifests in his love to serve the brethren,” it added.

The Christian group Members Church of God International, which is behind the television program “Ang Dating Daan,” said programs and projects initiated by Soriano would continue.

“Ang Dating Daan” started as a radio program in 1980. It became a television program in 1983.

Soriano took on more established preachers to expand his church membership, often daring ministers of the Iglesia ni Cristo to debate. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
