A medical officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the 502nd Infantry Brigade and the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police Office in Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya.

Known only by his alias, “Jay jay”, the 27 year old rebel is the assigned medic of the Platoon Uno of Komiteng Larangan Guerilla Quirino-Nueva Vizcaya and number 14 in the list of most wanted persons in 2019 in the province.

Aside from surrendering his first aid kit with acupuncture tools, “Jayjay” also relinquished one caliber 38 revolver with six ammunition, two hand grenades and two pieces of 40mm ammunition.

Army Brig. General Laurence E. Mina, commander of the 502nd Brigade, said “the voluntary surrender of ‘Jay jay’ is considered a big distress to the rebel groups and a clear manifestation of the degrading strength of the communist terrorists touring in the region.”

Major General Pablo M. Lorenzo, commander of the 5th Infantry Division, pointed out that “the Communist NPA terrorists in Cagayan Valley are in disarray and inconsequential to the point that many of them are abandoning the armed struggle to topple our democratic government.”

He added that the voluntary surrender of the medical officer is credited to the extensive campaign of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).  (Jojo Mangahis)
