The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said schools under Alert Level 1 could relax social distancing requirements in face-to-face (F2F) classes next school year.

In a “Laging Handa” briefing, Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said F2F classes would remain limited despite the relaxed protocols.

“Based on the most recent guidelines na ibinigay sa atin ng ating counterpart sa [Department of Health] ay sa Alert levels 1 and 2, kagaya ngayon ay puwede ang F2F classes at sa alert level one ay ire-relax na din sa darating na pasukan iyong physical distancing requirements,” he said.

Malaluan said 80 percent of the country’s public schools had been labeled ready for F2F classes.

“At itong panahon nitong break na ito ay gugugulin, para 100 percent ay maging handa ang ating mga paaralan,” he added.

Public school classes for school year 2022-2023 are scheduled to begin on Aug. 22.

The ongoing school year 2021-2022 is scheduled to close on June 24. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
