The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has proposed some steps to solve the heavy traffic in the National Capital Region (NCR) amid the region’s more relaxed Covid-19 restrictions.

MMDA chairman Don Artes said during a televised Cabinet briefing that one of solutions they are looking at is conducting daylight saving time for government offices in Metro Manila.

It means that government agencies will adjust their operations from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help decrease the number of people during rush hours.

He added that he will consult with the Civil Service Commission about this.

Another option is a 4-day work week with a 10-hour operation each day, or the original 8 hours every day but with a one-day work-from-home set up.

The MMDA plans to continue the existing number coding scheme that helps reduce traffic volume by 20%.

Another option the MMDA is looking at is an odd-even scheme that is observed to reduce volume by 50%. They are checking the possibility of a modified number coding scheme that can reduce traffic volume by 40%. Ronald Espartinez
