The OCTA Research Team on Friday noted an increase in Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila and hinted at the possibility of the region hitting a new peak.

According to OCTA Research Team’s Dr. Guido David, Metro Manila’s positivity rate rose from 12.7 percent as of Sept. 7 to 14.5 percent as of Sept. 14.

“The previous peak in positivity rate in the NCR during this wave was 17.5 percent on Aug. 5. There is a possibility that this current resurgence will exceed this number,” David said in a tweet.

The one-week growth rate of new cases in the region rose to 18 percent from -4 percent in the previous week.

“The rise in cases in the NCR (National Capital Region) is likely to cause a corresponding rise in infections in nearby regions. Rizal and Bulacan are currently on an uptrend,” David said.

Metro Manila has recorded 9,814 active Covid-19 cases as of Sept. 16.

More than 12.5 million of its residents have completed their vaccinations against the disease. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
