In an interview with CBCPNews, Manila Apostolic Administrator Broderick Pabillo says it was important for the youth vote to be counted in the elections.
As the Commission on Elections (Comelec) released the calendar of activities a year ahead of the presidential elections in 2022, a Catholic bishop urged the faithful, particularly the youth, to register as voters.
In an interview with CBCPNews, Manila Apostolic Administrator Broderick Pabillo said it was important for the youth vote to be counted in the elections.
“Our message is that everyone should be registered,” Bishop Pabillo said, “especially the youth and those who have not voted [yet] so that they can vote and that they can be counted.”
With names of potential presidential candidates starting to make rounds on the news and the social media, Pabillo said voters should start conducting their own research this early.
“They should be discerning,” the bishop said, “It is good that names are starting to arise, they should start their research on them.”
“Who are these people? What have they accomplished? What can they contribute to the country? As early as now, people should be talking about it.” he added.
In a resolution made public by the Comelec on Saturday, Feb. 13, the filing for certificates of candidacy will be from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8, 2021.
