Following the recent encounter in Sulu which killed four soldiers, the chief of the Jolo Municipal Police Station was administratively relieved from his position, the Police Regional Office – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao announced on Wednesday.
Police Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu said that Police Lt. Col. Walter Annayo will be under the supervision of the Sulu Provincial Police Office while the investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
Abu shared that relieving an official has been the protocol of the Philippine National Police when incidents like this happen.
In this case, Annayo, who is now on floating status, was relieved without the influence of Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay.
“Hindi ano naman may standing kuwan na tayo diyan sa PNP na pagka-ganyan, implement natin ‘yan, sinusunod natin ‘yan,” Abu said.
“If we find out na later on wala naman talagang lapses on the performance of his duty, he’ll be back again,” Abu added.
As for the Sulu Provincial Police Office chief, there is no order yet to relieve him, Abu clarified. (RJ Espartinez)
