CLAIM: Genesis Chapter 19 mentions same-sex marriage
RATING: FALSE
Jesus is Lord pastor and Cibac partylist representative Eduardo “Eddie” Villanueva falsely claimed that Chapter 19 of the Bible’s Book of Genesis mentions same-sex marriage.
“Allowing SAME SEX MARRIAGE is not only mortal sin But direct Rebellion against GOD who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of rampant wickedness of SAME SEX MARRIAGES! ( Genesis 19),” he tweeted on Jan. 26.
However, the entire Chapter 19 of Genesis, which tells the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, does not mention same-sex marriage.
There are however several passages in the Bible condemning homosexual acts (Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9).
The Bible does teach that marriage is the union of a man and a woman (Genesis 2:21–24, Matthew 19:4–6). — Rommel F. Lopez
