A social media post claims Marcos Jr. will be canonized by the church of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy

CLAIM: Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be canonized by Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy

RATING: SATIRE

A satirical social media card says presidential candidate and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. will be canonized by controversial evangelist Apollo C. Quiboloy, who claims to be the “Appointed Son of God” and the “Owner of the Universe”.

The quote card claims Quiboloy was honored to proclaim the son and namesake of the late dictator and plunderer to become a saint of his Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church because Marcos Jr. possessed the qualities shown by God.

The post also claims that Marcos’s spokesperson, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, sent his thanks for the “canonization” news.

The post is of course satirical.

Since its foundation in Agdao, Davao City in 1985, Quiboloy’s Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc. has not declared any person, living or dead, a saint.

The act of canonization is practiced mainly by the Roman Catholic Church, and other branches of Christianity like the Anglican Communion and the Orthodox Churches.

The “statement of thanks” of Marcos Jr.’s spokesman was also made up.

The page that shared the quote card is an obvious satire of the Facebook page of former Duterte official Mocha Uson.  The page has been flagged multiple times for sharing disinformation. – Rommel F. Lopez
