President Rodrigo Duterte has nominated fellow Davaoeño Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio as commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), filling in the last spot in the seven-member body.

Ampoloquio was election supervisor of Davao del Norte. She was appointed to the national body following ex-Comelec commissioner Al Pareño’s retirement in February.

In a statement, Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said Ampoloquio’s vast experience in election service would “greatly contribute to the [Comelec’s] thrust to ensure that our electoral processes are responsive to the varying needs of our electorate – making sure that our elections are more inclusive.”

Ampoloqiuo entered the election service field as an emergency laborer in 1994. She then served as an election assistant for 12 years, as election officer for 10 years then as Davao del Norte’s election supervisor for two years.

Malacañang also cited Ampoloquio’s experience.

“With her vast experience in election matters, Ms. Ampoloquio, would certainly contribute in ensuring our elections would be honest, orderly, peaceful and credible,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.

Ampoloquio’s nomination has yet to be approved by the Commission on Appointments. If cleared, Ampoloquio will become Duterte’s sixth appointee in Comelec and serve as commissioner of the election body until February 2027. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
