The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Ilocos destroyed over P400,000 worth of confiscated, uncertified products in observance of World Standards Day.

The destruction of the seized goods was held at the City Sanitary Landfill in San Fernando City witnessed by DTI officials, landfill Engr. Shiela Mae Anongos, representatives of the Senior Citizens Federation and officers of the Youth Consumers Organization of the La Union National High School.

Destroyed products included steel bars, angle bars, Christmas lights, liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, monoblock chairs, and pneumatic tires which were confiscated from 2018 to present.

“We are looking at product standards or policies that have impact on the safety of the people, their community and the people around them,” DTI regional director Grace Falgui-Baluyan said.

The destruction is also part of the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month.

Falgui-Baluyan encouraged consumers to “be vigilant, look and understand the product information before buying a product.” (Jojo Mangahis)
