President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Wilkins Villanueva as new Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general, replacing Aaron Aquino.

Villanueva served as PDEA director of Northern Mindanao and the National Capital Region. He also headed the Bureau of Customs’ intelligence and investigation service.

“Villanueva is no stranger to drug law enforcement. He has been working with PDEA for many years before reaching the agency’s top position. We therefore believe DG (director general) Villanueva will lead PDEA and the fight against illegal drugs to greater heights with professionalism, passion and integrity,” Malacañang said in a statement.

In a Facebook post, Villanueva expressed his gratitude to Duterte: “My utmost gratitude to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for giving me his trust and confidence to lead our country’s WAR ON DRUGS. I will never fail you, MR. PRESIDENT!”

“The war on drugs continues!” he added.

Malacañang also announced that Aquino was appointed member of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) board of directors on May 22.

Duterte has also approved Aquino’s nomination as CIAC President and chief executive officer. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
