The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday reported two new deaths among overseas Filipinos (OFs) in Beirut, Lebanon, due to the massive explosions at the Port of Beirut on Aug. 5.

The number of injured OFs rose to 31, the DFA said.

“We are saddened by the latest turn of developments. The higher figure comes as our embassy personnel work to ascertain the condition of the Filipinos in its jurisdiction,“ Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Arriola said.

A Filipino household service worker remained missing, the DFA said.

Among the injured, two were in critical condition and confined at Rizk Hospital.

The Beirut explosions killed at least 157 and left some 300,000 people homeless.

They were aggravated by ammonium nitrate which had been stored inside the Port of Beirut without proper safety measures for six years. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
