The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said 17,479 public and private schools had been nominated to conduct face-to-face (F2F) classes amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a press release, the DepEd said 17,054 of these schools were public schools while 425 were private schools.

“Based on the quick count as of March 28, 2022, [these] schools are ready for the progressive expansion of the F2F classes and those which are either fully compliant with the [DepEd’s] school safety assessment tool or compliant but with pending local government unit concurrence,” the DepEd said.

A total of 13,692 public and private schools are currently conducting F2F classes.

“We are optimistic with this upward trend on the number of schools already implementing classroom-based learning. With support from the central and regional offices, we are keen on reintroducing physical classes to more localities in the country,” the press release quoted Education Secretary Leonor Briones as saying.

There are about 3.1 million students participating in classroom-based learning nationwide.

The DepEd has started resuming F2F classes in several regions of the country as Covid-19 cases started to decrease earlier in the year.
