The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday announced the first 59 schools that would implement pilot face-to-face classes later this year.

Most of the 59 schools are situated in the Visayas and Mindanao. Only four are Luzon schools, all from Region 5.

According to the DepEd, the 59 schools were chosen from a pool of 638 nominated schools.

“Ang mga napiling paaralan ay masusing sinuri ng DOH Epidemiology Bureau at kinilalang minimal o low risk, base sa alert levels ng mga probinsya/highly urbanized cities / independent component cities at risk category ng munisipalidad at siyudad,” the DepEd said.

The pilot face-to-face classes will commence on Nov. 15.

President Rodrigo Duterte in September approved limited face-to-face classes in 120 Philippine schools, which are subject to a safety assessment by the DepEd.

Public school classes in the Philippines opened on Sept. 13, marking the second year the Philippines implemented distance learning. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
