Davao Oriental governor Nelson Dayanghirang and his wife tested positive for the virus that cause the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The governor made the announcement through his official Facebook page.

In the announcement written in Cebuano, Dayanghirang said that he decided to undergo a swab test after having a mild fever starting May 19. Immediately after learning the positive results of his May 23 swab test, he and his wife, Nanette, immediately went into isolation.

He assured his constituents that their symptoms are mild and that they are under close monitoring by the Provincial IATF Commander, Dr. Reden Bersaldo for treatment, contact tracing, and testing.

He apologized to those who had close contacts with him last week and requests that they also undergo self-quarantine and follow health protocols, while waiting for further instructions.

He is also reminding those who have not yet been vaccinated to refrain from leaving their homes to protect themselves and their loved ones from getting infected.

As of 7pm of Wednesday, Davao Oriental recorded 12 new cases bringing its total active cases to 71 and its total caseload to 1,570.
