DAVAO CITY – A purok in Agdao District in this city has been placed on total lockdown for 14 days starting in the afternoon of August 17 after the area registered an alarming number of coronavirus cases.

The Davao City government has placed Purok 8 in Brgy. Tomas Monteverde, Agdao District after 65 residents tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).  The city said the purok must be locked down to prevent the infection from spreading to neighboring puroks and barangays.

The City Health Office (CHO) conducted two (2) swabbing activities last week in the area and found 65 positive cases.

Those who tested positive were sent to a city-based temporary treatment and monitoring facility.

The city said health protocols and security measures will be strictly implemented in the area during the lockdown, including prohibiting all residents to enter or go out of their houses, until the local transmission is contained.

Mayor Sara Duterte assured Purok 8 residents that food assistance will be provided to them while the area is under the 14-day lockdown.

The city government has also advised the public to avoid going to Barangay Tomas Monteverde.

The city said Purok 8 has an estimated population of about 200 people and is the second area placed on hard lockdown after Barangay 23-C.  Rommel F. Lopez
