Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio has ordered the closure of all beach and inland water resorts in the city from April 1 to 4, 2021.

Executive Order (EO) No. 19 (series of 2021) does not, however, state the reason for the closure other than stating that “all individuals are prohibited from gathering in beaches and inland resorts during the long holiday weekend for Holy week.”  This EO could also have been issued to control the movement of people during the long weekend since Holy Thursday to Black Saturday are non-working days.

The EO also mandates law enforcement agencies in the city to implement the order.

The order takes effect on 12:01AM of April 1, 2021 and ends on 11:59PM of April 4, 2021.

As of Monday, Davao City has 318 active Covid-19 cases, the highest in the entire Davao region.  It also leads the region in total Covid-19 cases registered since the pandemic hit the region in early 2020 with 13,695 cases.  Trailing it is Davao del Norte with 3,441 registered cases. Rommel F. Lopez
