Cebu province reported its first case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Wednesday.

The 65-year-old man is currently quarantined at the Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue City.  He is now known as Patient 188 or PH188.

Details as to how the patient got the disease and his current condition are still to be confirmed.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia announced a ‘community quarantine’ for 30 days sealing off its borders from other areas in the country.

Since last Tuesday, March 17, all air and seaports were closed to prevent non-residents from entering the province and the city.

A province-wide 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew is being implemented while malls, restaurants and bars are mandated to close by 9 p.m.

Currently, the Philippines posted 202 positive cases of the coronavirus infection, with 17 fatalities and 7 recoveries.  (RJ Espartinez)
