Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has issued an executive order allowing the optional wearing of face masks in several settings, including outdoors.

Executive Order No. 5, which was signed on Wednesday, declared the use of face masks in Cebu City as “non-obligatory but a measure of individual self-preservation and protection.”

Face masks will only be required in hospitals, clinics and other medical and diagnostic facilities.

Individuals who are sick, immunocompromised or have flu-like symptoms are also required to wear masks.

“As a rule, wearing of face mask is not required in outdoor and open spaces subject to the discretion of the mayor in exceptional circumstances,” the order read.

The order said establishments, businesses and entites were given the power to impose their own mask-wearing policies.

In a media briefing, the mayor said the wearing of face masks in schools would also be voluntary. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
