General Trias City, Cavite – Tadpoles, which eat the larvae of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, were scattered on open canals by city government officials.

The activity was led by Dr. Jonathan Luseco of the City Health Office, together with village heads, barangay health workers, and volunteer citizens.

The tadpole seeding is an effort of the city government which seeks to manage the spread of dengue through the Department of Health (DOH) campaign called “Sabayang 4 O’clock Habit para Deng-Get Out”.

This effort was also complemented with an extensive clean-up drive on open canals in Barangay Pasong Camachile jointly by local and even national government agencies.

Cleaning involved the removal of garbage that blocked the flow of water thus causing water stagnation, a most likely breeding site of the dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (Jojo Mangahis)
