The Bureau of Immigration (BI) warned young professionals against scammers inviting people to work for a call center or business process outsourcing (BPO) company abroad that promises a huge compensation package but is actually a recruitment system for a crypto scam operation.

“In some instances, they are ushered, they are transported from an Asian country to Myanmar so they can work there in a crypto scam,” said Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval

“And pagdating po doon, makakatanggap po tayo ng reports na sila po ay sinasaktan, may physical torture po, hindi pinapasweldo ng tama, and sila po talagang binibiktima doon and pinipilit din po silang mambiktima ng ibang mga tao,” she added.

Sandoval said the scam has victimized “hundreds” so far.

“That’s why we are sending the message out there for those who want to work abroad… not to fall, not to be victimized by these schemes na usually po sa internet, sa social media platforms nang a-attract po ng kanilang mga biktima,” she said.
