Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) USec. Martin Diño challenged barangay officials to take strict measures to prevent crime.
Diño criticized village officials for their lack of action, citing millions of pesos spent to purchase closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to supposedly serve as a deterrent against crimes.
Recently, incidents of kidnapping by Chinese nationals were reported in Cavite and Makati City.
Diño stressed that the police must maintain checkpoints in villages especially in crime prone areas.
Ngayon, gawin nyo babantayan niyo 24/7 dapat may nagmomonitor. At dapat nakakalat mga tao nyo para yan ay magamit as crime prevention, hindi for recording,” Diño said.
He added a memorandum circular will be issued to all village officials to ensure strict compliance of the 24-hour monitoring of assigned areas via CCTV cameras.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson PBGen. Bernard Banac said the PNP is closely coordinating with the Chinese embassy and its Chinese counterparts to identify their citizens involved in criminal activities including kidnapping in the country.
The PNP assured the public that it is closely monitoring the movements of known personalities from China who were believed to be involved in illegal activities. (Jasper Camilo)
