A Badjao vendor is now wanted by the police after he was tagged in the rape of a 22-year-old Russian tourist in Panglao earlier this week.

The Bohol Provincial Prosecutor’s Office filed robbery with rape charge against Cadel Caluman, a local vendor, according to Senior Staff Sgt. Vicky Villaber of the Panglao police’s Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk.

Villaber added that the suspect remains missing after the alleged rape in Barangay Libaong on Tuesday.

Caluman, a married resident of Barangay Totolan in Dauis, is now at large after the police searched his house right after the victim reported the incident to authorities.

According to reports, Caluman was selling native accessories at a beach in Barangay Libaong when he offered the victim a tour along the shore. But the suspect led the victim to an isolated area where he choked her until the victim fell unconscious.

The Russian tourist had regained her consciousness after an hour. She woke up without wearing her shorts and underwear. The victim asked for help from a passerby in the area who immediately notified the police.

She was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital for a medical examination to determine if she was indeed raped. Results have not yet been released.

Police said the victim travelled alone and arrived in Bohol last week. (RJ Espartinez)
