Ikaw Muna (IM) Pilipinas is dropping its support of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in favor of Vice President Leni Robredo.

IM Pilipinas Visayas lead convenor Nick Malazarte said in a press conference that only Robredo will have a chance to prevent a return of the Marcoses to power.

Malazarte said their group has seen the necessity to shift their support to Robredo because she is “most likely” to defeat Marcos with her “high ratings.”

“We still maintain that Isko is still very good. But the thing is the numbers are not working for him,” Malazarte said.

Malazarte said their group was founded by individuals who opposed Martial Law and fought for the removal of the late dictator and kleptocrat Ferdinand Marcos. The group’s objective is to stop former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. from winning the elections.

“There is a danger of the Marcoses getting back to power, that is why if we believe Yorme (Moreno) is the best, we have somebody better (Robredo) because the alternative is the worst, who is BBM,” said Malazarte.

Malazarte added that no money was involved in their decision. He explained that they have already met with Robredo’s camp to show their intention to support her presidential bid. They also sent a letter to Moreno’s camp about their decision.

He is also encouraging supporters of other presidential candidates to consider shifting their support to Robredo as well.

Malazarte said the opposition needs to unite to prevent Marcos from winning the presidency.
