Interior Secretary Eduardo on Tuesday said 10 mayors were ordered to explain their absence amid the onslaught of super typhoon “Rolly” over the weekend.
“[The] DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) will issue show-cause order to these mayors. After validating their answers, investigation may proceed,” Año told media outfits Tuesday.
The officials may be slapped with charges for dereliction of duty, gross negligence and/or violation of the DILG memorandum requiring 100-percent presence of local chief executives before, during and after typhoon onslaughts.
In a meeting with Cabinet officials and President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night, Año said the rest of the 1,047 local chief executives were present on duty.
Año lauded LGUs’ preparations for the typhoon through DILG’s Operation Listo.
“Siguro kung hindi nakapaghanda nang husto lalo na sa forced evacuation ay baka mas maraming casualties,” he said in a Palace briefing on Monday.
More than two million individuals were affected by “Rolly,” according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. At least 17 deaths have been reported as of Nov. 3. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
