Angat Buhay Exceutive Director Raffy Magno

Former vice president Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay initiated 137 learning facilities called Community Learning Hubs (CLH) in response to the inability of Filipinos at age 10 to read and understand simple text.

The Philippines was named as the second to the last in Southeast Asia for the reading and math skills for Grade 5 in the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics 2019.

CLH provides learning materials and equipment for the learners that also include trained teaching volunteers.

“The Community Learning Hubs are our response to the country’s learning crisis,” said Raffy Magno, executive director of Angat Buhay.

Estimated 5,168 students also received educational materials, tools, and teaching sessions to combat learning poverty since the start of Angat Buhay Foundation’s education program in July 2022.

“We enjoined the assistance of education experts and stakeholders in designing the modules, training, and evaluation system,” he added.

Magno mentioned that all hubs improve learners’ literacy and 95% of students improved in math from pretest to post-test.

CLH sites are located in Metro Manila and in other 30 provinces including Tarlac, Catanduanes, Guimaras, Bohol, Sultan Kudarat, and Zamboanga Sibugay. Gian Rowelle Erenia
