The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday reported 37 new Covid-19 recoveries among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total to 5,200.

As of July 4, 8,629 Filipinos have been confirmed to contract the coronavirus. Only 2,866 of the total were active, DFA said.

A total of 563 deaths have also been reported.

The DFA said 2,149 overseas Filipinos were undergoing treatment in the Middle East/African regions, 470 in Europe, 128 in the Asia Pacific region and 119 in the Americas.

DFA also noted a downtrend in cases in Asian countries, as only two new infections were reported.

“The DFA shall continue to keep track of the status of Filipinos abroad and work to safely repatriate more of our stranded nationals home as we keep on this fight against this pandemic,” it said.

The DFA has said it had facilitated the return of 68,440 Filipinos. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
