The Philippines on Friday received a shipment of 502,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses procured by local government units (LGUs) and the private sector.

According to the National Task Force against Covid-19, the vaccines were procured through the “A Dose of Hope” initiative.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said 80 percent of the vaccines would be allocated to LGUs.

He added that the country might receive another shipment of about 500,000 AstraZeneca doses next week.

A total of 8.93 million AstraZeneca doses have so far been delivered to the Philippines.

To date, the country has received 53,294,130 Covid-19 vaccine doses from various manufacturers.
